About GNU
GNU builds snowboards that push the boundaries of what's possible on snow. Founded in the early 1980s at Mervin Manufacturing in Sequim, Washington, GNU earned their reputation by creating some of the most innovative snowboard designs in the industry. They pioneered radical contours and shapes that changed how boards perform, with founder Mike Olson developing countless innovations including advanced side cuts, air-filled cores, and Teflon-infused bases.
GNU stands apart because every snowboard is handbuilt in the USA with zero hazardous waste since 1977, making them part of the longest-running and last major board-building factory in America. While most brands moved production offshore, GNU stayed committed to their Washington facility. They also created some of the first and longest-running women's pro snowboard models in the industry, showing their dedication to progression across all riders. Shop GNU snowboards at Sanction and experience boards built by design legends who refuse to compromise on quality or innovation.
